Jaw crusher jaw plates and cheek plates: wear diagnosis and RFQ guide for buyers
Jaw plates, cheek plates, wedges and small hardware affect capacity, product size and shutdown risk. A clear RFQ helps suppliers quote replacement jaw crusher parts with fewer assumptions.
Start with the chamber layout
Jaw crushers break rock by repeated compression between a fixed jaw plate and a movable jaw plate. The jaw dies do the main crushing work, while cheek plates protect the side frame area of the chamber. Wedges, bolts, nuts and protection plates keep the wear parts correctly seated during operation.
Before asking for a quote, identify whether the request is for fixed jaw plate, movable jaw plate, cheek plate, wedge, bolt set or a complete wear-part package. This reduces the risk of receiving jaw dies without the fitting hardware needed for installation.
Read the wear pattern before replacing parts
Uneven jaw plate wear often points to operating conditions, not only casting quality. Oversized feed, poor feed distribution, tight closed side setting, high fines content or an unsuitable tooth profile can concentrate wear in one zone.
- Fast lower-zone wear may be linked to abrasive fines, tight setting or high reduction demand.
- Top-zone breakage can indicate large blocky feed, tramp material or severe impact.
- Uneven left-right wear should trigger checks of feed distribution, jaw alignment and cheek plate condition.
- Poor grip or slabby product may mean the tooth profile does not match the feed shape.
Choose jaw profile and manganese grade by application
Jaw die profile should match the feed material and crushing duty. Common pattern families include wide tooth, corrugated, coarse corrugated, heavy duty and quarry-style profiles. The right choice depends on feed size, rock shape, abrasiveness, grip requirement and target product size.
For material, buyers commonly compare Mn13, Mn18 and Mn22 high manganese steel. A higher manganese grade is not automatically better in every case. The supplier needs to understand impact level, abrasiveness, feed hardness and whether the jaw plate can work-harden properly in service.
Include cheek plates and fitting hardware in the RFQ
Cheek plates are easy to overlook because jaw dies are the visible wear parts. If cheek plates are left too long, they may expose more expensive structural surfaces to wear. For remote mines and quarries, include cheek plates, wedges, bolts, nuts and protection plates in the same inquiry to avoid a second urgent shipment.
Safety and shutdown planning
Jaw plate replacement involves heavy castings, stored energy, lifting points and work around the crushing chamber. Follow the crusher manual and site lockout procedure. Confirm lifting features, approximate weight, fitting hardware and dimensional checks before the shutdown window.

- Crusher brand, model and serial plate photo if available
